Edisto Oral Surgery was founded to bring hospital-level surgical training to a private-practice setting that feels personal, unhurried, and close to home.
Dr. Olendorf and his daughter Emma at "Potluck in the Park," helping feed those less fortunate.
Dr. Olendorf believes feeling safe and cared for matters as much as the procedure itself. Oral surgery can be intimidating, and he brings a gentle touch, a warm bedside manner, and genuine empathy to every visit — the kind of doctor patients say they wish they'd found sooner.
His path here wasn't typical. Dr. Olendorf is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and spent nine years as a nuclear-trained submarine officer before transitioning to dentistry. He completed dental school at the University of Washington, where he was elected class and student body president, then was selected for an Oral Surgery residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, serving as Chief Resident. After more than 21 years of active-duty service — including a post as the only active-duty oral surgeon in the Charleston market — he retired from the Navy in 2022 and purchased his own practice, bringing him to Orangeburg.
Clinically, he focuses on dental implant placement and bone grafting, extractions with or without sedation, full-mouth rehabilitation, corrective jaw surgery, and recovery from facial trauma. Outside the office, he's a father of five and enjoys the outdoors, cooking, golf, and spending time with his family and their chocolate lab in the Lowcountry he now calls home.
